The Paint Box

Branding + Identity

The branding + identity for Aiyana Jones, a hairstylist in Portland, OR.

PROFESSIONAL. DYNAMIC. STRIKING. FUN.

Created color and material palette, logo, designed website mockups, and brand guidelines.

Aiyana’s instagram account was used as a visual springboard. A 3x3 square foundation is the framework for the overall composition, layout, placement, and visuals. This square structure was translated to website mockups, business cards and logo.

Moodboards showing layout, color palette, photo styles, typography, textures, and imagery.

A professional, dynamic, striking, and fun tone that offsets and emphasizes the images of her work.

…3x3 square foundation is the framework for the overall composition…

Aiyana is bright, smiley, sweet, fun, professional, talented, multifaceted, and easy to talk to. She has a love for neon colors and is particularly skilled with creating blonde hair that is dimensional, intricate, vivid, striking and dynamic. Her preferred method is balayage, which literally means “to paint”. This creates an absolutely unique and individualized hair design for every client, depending on where and how her brush strokes fall.

…intense, saturated neon colors, bright pinks, greens and blues, paired with smooth, even, matte neutrals. Textural backgrounds of paint on canvas, abstract crops of florals and greenery, and defined architectural shapes…

Photo styles that allow flexibility and overall consistency.

…give context and connection to potential new clients…

Two photo styles were designed for her to mix and match. This allows for her to have variety, but also consistency in her overall canvas. An emphasis was put on the human component in the visuals. Having an assortment of shots of the same client: back of hair, side, with profile, head on, full body, would give context and connection to potential new clients looking at her portfolio.
